Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 has taken an excellent opening at the box office. The film brought in Rs. 44.50 crores and that’s even better than what was expected in the best case scenario. This one is a spy franchise offering, has released during the festival season, and very importantly has Salman Khan in the lead who was waiting to fire away in a big film for a while now.

What makes it further special is that this is now also Salman Khan’s biggest opener ever as his Bharat, which was his highest ever at Rs. 42.30 crores, and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which had netted Rs. 40.35 crores on the first day, have been eclipsed. The numbers are even bigger than his much loved Sultan [Rs. 36.54 crores] and then it’s also the biggest ‘Tiger opener’ as the collections have surpassed Tiger Zinda Hai [Rs. 33.75 crores]. Now of course, had this been a regular Friday release then further set of records would have been created by Salman Khan, especially with Rs. 50 crores opening being there for the taking rather comfortably.

Now it has to be seen where does the film land up today since indications are that Rs. 60 crores mark would be crossed. Since the likes of Pathaan and Jawan have scored those Rs. 70 and Rs. 80 crores, it had started seeming that this would be a norm now. However, let’s not forget that before these films, even Rs. 40 crores was meant to be huge and Rs. 50 crores was just a dream. So if Tiger 3 indeed manages more than Rs. 60 crores then that too would be no mean feat.
