Actors Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal’s debut film as producers, Girls Will Be Girls is set to have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. The film, directed by Shuchi Talati, is also competing in the World Dramatic Cinema category. Richa and Ali have left for Park City, Utah, in the United States for the premiere of the film on January 20.
Girls Will Be Girls is a joint venture of Richa and Ali’s production house Pushing Buttons Studios along with Blink Digital, Crawling Angel Films and Dolce Vita Films. The story is set in a boarding school nestled in a small Himalayan hill town in northern India and follows the rebellious awakening of a 16-year-old girl played by Preeti Panigrahi. The film also stars Kani Kusruti, Jitin Gulati and Kesav Binoy Kiron in pivotal roles.
Richa Chadha expressed her excitement in the press release, saying, “Getting through in such a competitive cinema festival is itself a big deal. I have high hopes from Shuchi as a director and the rank newcomers as actors. Kani, the world has witnessed her brilliance again in Killer Soup. I feel blessed”.
Ali Fazal added in his statement in the press note, “As new founders, we are exploring new worlds through new stories. Sundance happens to be the greatest step one into the next world to be discovered by us hopefully soon. I am thrilled that we get to share our creation with the world.”
