Given that it follows the adventures of a young woman who wakes up after seemingly dying, it makes sense that ‘Warrior Nun’, which had a two-season run on Netflix before the streaming service unceremoniously dropped the axe following last year’s second run of episodes, is being resurrected in some fashion.
After a passionate and engaged fan campaign online and in the real world (faithful viewers paid for planes to pull “#SaveWarriorNun’ banners over Netflix HQ), the story will have a chance to continue.
Following show creator and executive producer Simon Barry’s tweet from June teasing a return, we now have more details –– specifically that there will be three movies based on the show.
What’s the story of ‘Warrior Nun’?
Adapted by Barry from Ben Dunn’s comic books, the two-season (so far) series, revolves around a 19-year-old woman (Alba Baptista) who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artifact embedded in her back. She discovers she now is part of an ancient order that has been tasked with fighting demons on Earth, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her.
Season 2 ended on a huge cliffhanger as our lead admitted to her crush that she loved her… shortly before being sucked into a portal. So, the chance to continue the narrative is a welcome one for fans.
Who else appears in ‘Warrior Nun?’
The series’ cast also includes Kristina Tonteri-Young, Lorena Andrea, Toya Turner, Tristán Ulloa, Thekla Reuten as well as Sylvia De Fanti and William Miller.
What did the producer say about the next development?
Executive producer Dean English said this about the movie future of the show:
“I need to start by thanking all of you loyal fans. It’s because of you and your incredible energy that we keep pushing forward to make these stories. You guys really make it all worthwhile. So, thank you so much for your continued support. I am very happy to announce that ‘Warrior Nun’ is coming back as a trilogy of motion pictures. Once again, a trilogy of feature films. Three.”
And he went on to say that this is planned as the start of something new for the series:
“One thing we need to touch on involves the strike in Hollywood involving actors and writers. And it’s due to that that we cannot make any announcements today on that front. Some may ask, ‘Does this perhaps infer that there’s going to be a universe being launched of Warrior Nun, which could expand into films and TV series following characters that we already know?’ The answer to that question is yes. And there will be more details in the future.”

The first two seasons of ‘Warrior Nun’ are streaming on Netflix now. No details have been announced as to where the movies might appear.
