Box Office: Rajkummar Rao scores his highest opening with Mr. & Mrs. Mahi as the film goes past Stree :Bollywood Box Office

After being in the industry for a decade, Rajkummar Rao is coming on his own. First he scored with Srikanth and now his Mr. & Mrs. Mahi has opened quite well too. What makes it further special is the fact that this has now also emerged as his biggest opening day ever, as even Stree has been left behind by a few lakhs.

While Stree was a horror comedy and had an advantage of a star like Shraddha Kapoor in a major role, Mr. & Mrs. Mahi has an advantage of Cinema Lovers Day. So in a way, all of this balances out. Hence, it’s good to see that this time around, Rajkummar Rao has actually gone one up. Moreover, the numbers are much ahead of the next two films in line, Judgementall Hai Kya and Kai Po Che!, both of which had brought in Rs. 4.50 crores each on their opening day.

This is the opening day collections over the years of Rajkummar Rao starrers look like:

Mr. & Mrs. Mahi – Rs 6.85 crores

Stree – Rs 6.82 crores

Judgementall Hai Kya – Rs 4.50 crores

Kai Po Che! – Rs 4.50 crores

Roohi – Rs 3.06 crores

Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga – Rs 2.90 crores

Dolly Ki Doli – Rs 2.55 crores

Bareilly Ki Barfi – Rs 2.42 crores

Srikanth – Rs 2.41 crores

Fanney Khan – Rs 2.15 crores

As can be seen, bottom half of the Top-10 list is dominated by Rs. 2-3 crores openers, which shows how that’s the general range in which Rajkummar Rao operates. However, there have been a couple of Rs. 4 crores and Rs. 6 crores openers, and Mr. & Mrs. Mahi has narrowly missed out on hitting that Rs. 7 crores mark. Still, it’s a start nonetheless and when Stree 2 arrives a few months down the line, not just would it emerge as the biggest opener ever for Rajkummar Rao by a distance but also find a place amongst the top openers of 2024 for Bollywood.
