The Jason Momoa-starrer Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which released for the Christmas weekend, could not use the festive season and recorded one of the lowest earnings among the DC Cinematic Universe films. The film collected a domestic gross of $40 million and $80.1 million overseas including 72 markets.
The film, directed by James Wan, met with lukewarm response from critics. “While not fully living up to its predecessor’s expectations, the film provides ample thrills and a fairly entertaining farewell to the current era of the DCEU,” reads CE review of the film.
Along with Jason, the film’s cast includes Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Nicole Kidman. With a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, the story is by James Wan and David Leslie. The technical crew consists of Don Burgess as the cinematographer, Bill Brzeski on production design and Kirk Morri handling the edits. Rupert Gregson-Williams will be scoring the music.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom marks the final film coming from DC Extended Universe.
