A year after scoring the biggest opener ever of her career with Pathaan, Deepika Padukone has arrived yet again on Republic Day weekend with Fighter. Incidentally, both the films have been directed by Siddharth Anand and are adrenalin pumping non-stop action films. That said, the opening day of Fighter is a little less than 50% of Pathaan and that’s on expected lines since latter was a different beast altogether and such kind of phenomenon can rarely be repeated.
The film is below Happy New Year though which was the record holder of the best opening day for a really long time, while Chennai Express – one of her much loved films – is up in the list as well. However, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has been left behind though and there is a greater distance that Deepika Padukone has covered with Fighter. That said, the Ayan Mukerji film was released a long time back, so in fair value, its collections would be higher.
This is how the Top-10 openers of Deepika Padukone look like:
Pathaan – Rs. 57 crores
Happy New Year – Rs. 44.97 crores
Chennai Express – Rs. 33.10 crores
Fighter – Rs. 24.60 crores
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani – Rs. 19.45 crores
Padmaavat – Rs. 19 crores
Ram Leela – Rs. 15.73 crores
Race 2 – Rs. 15.10 crores
Bajirao Mastani – Rs. 12.80 crores
Cocktail – Rs. 11 crores
In this list, there are three action films (Pathaan, Fighter, Race 2), three Sanjay Leela Bhansali films (Padmaavat, Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani), three rom-coms (Chennai Express, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Cocktail) and one masala film (Happy New Year). The actress has been doing well across genres and that’s one of her biggest strengths. In fact, the film which is now out of the Top-10 list, Tamasha (Rs. 10.87 crores), was a romantic drama, which was another genre, where the actress has dabbled.
