Animal crosses Rs 700 crore mark worldwide; beats Pathaan’s second-week collection- Cinema express

Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal has surpassed the Rs 700-crore mark globally. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, at the home front, the film stands at Rs 432.37 crore. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial has now beaten the lifetime domestic box office collection of Aamir Khan’s Dangal.

According to Sacnilk, Animal netted Rs 37 crore in all languages on its second Sunday. The film had made a shade over Rs 660 crore till Saturday.

The film’s second Sunday has been better than both Shah Rukh Khan blockbusters Pathaan and Jawan. While the former did Rs 28.5 crore, the latter netted Rs 36.85 crore. Animal, however, has surpassed the second-week collection of Pathaan, which stood at Rs 429.9 crore. It is still behind Jawan’s second weekend at Rs 477 crore.

Apart from Ranbir, the film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor and Triptii Dimri.

Despite the polarizing opinions on the film, Animal has been raging at the box office. Our review of the film read: “Love happens crudely, and misogynistically in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s universe. Ranvijay spots Geetanjali (Rashmika Mandanna) while she is getting engaged. He looks at her like Kabir Singh or Arjun Reddy looked at their Preetis. I want her. Love here is more obsession and possession than affection. It is also manipulation. Ranvijay uses an evolutionary explanation to brainwash Gitanjali into marrying him. “In the olden days, there weren’t parents or castes, women chose their partners themselves. Who would you choose if not an alpha?” he asks her. It’s convoluted like feminism being mansplained.”
