Owing to the BIG World Cup semi-final match between India and New Zealand, the collections of Tiger 3 dropped by over 50% on Wednesday (Rs. 21.25 crores) after Tuesday collections stood at Rs. 44.75 crores. But the Salman Khan starrer sustained well on Thursday. This time around the drop was only in around 10% range and that’s fine because the film could have easily slipped further by 20%-25% range and come down to Rs. 15 crores. However, fortunately that didn’t turn out to be the case as Rs. 19.50 crores* more came in.
It was pretty much a regular weekday with the holiday effect wearing off and no festivities around either. Still, for a film to get as much is not bad at all. Of course, this one is a major franchise, has Salman Khan in the lead, carries the whole ‘spy universe’ tag to it and very importantly has been made on a mammoth budget by YRF. Also, the benchmark has been set very high by the troika of Rs. 500 Crores Club films like Jawan, Pathaan and Gadar 2. Hence the expectations were that Tiger 3 will follow suit as well and at the very least step into the Rs. 400 Crores Club.
While that won’t be the case now, the Maneesh Sharma directed film will still be aiming for that Rs. 300 Crores Club entry. Not many films have reach there either and if even with mixed response amongst audiences, it reaches there then it would all boil down to Salman Khan power as well as the scale at which Aditya Chopra has put it all together which lends a true big screen appeal. So far, the film stands at Rs. 189.25 crores* and while today it will go past the Rs. 200 crores mark rather comfortably, it has to be seen what’s the kind of jump that it manages tomorrow as that would be the biggest day now in the rest of its run.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources
