It was a very low Friday for Bollywood as overall collections were just not enough at the box office. While last Friday was low too with Ganapath and Yaariyaan 2 just about crossing Rs. 3 crores between them with former bringing in the chunk of collections, this week the numbers went further down with only Rs. 2 crores combined collections been crossed. The only difference is that both 12th Fail and Tejas contributed almost equally with Rs. 1 crore each been crossed. That said, a lot more needed to come in since the stage was wide open with negligible competition.

Box Office Tejas and 12th Fail collect just over Rs. 2 crores between them on Friday

There wasn’t much to differentiate between Tejas, and 12th Fail from absolute numbers perspective as the Kangana Ranaut starrer brought in Rs. 1.10 crores while the Vikrant Massey film collected Rs. 1.10 crores. Tejas had of course seen a relatively wider release whereas 12th Fail saw a controlled arrival. Still, give the credentials involved, one expected Tejas to start a little better. All eyes are now on whether there is some sort of turnaround possible today since that would be much required for Tejas to aim for that score beyond the Rs. 10 crores mark.

On the other hand, 12th Fail is a much smaller movie and for Vikrant Massey this is actually his biggest theatrical release till date. The key credential here is in fact director Vidhu Vinod Chopra who has made big movies in the past and this one is set on a restricted scale. It will get recovery through OTT but since it has seen a theatrical release, you do expect collections too. The critical acclaim is there for the film and word of mouth has also started to spread. All of that would be helpful though if it manages to go past at least Rs. 1.75 crores mark today.

As for the third release of the week, Sajini Shinde Ka Viral Video, it was a token theatrical release at very few shows and the collections were very negligible. It should soon make its way to OTT and then it would be interesting to see how the Nimrat Kaur led film finds traction there.

Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources
