Today saw the release of three theatrical films in Bollywood. Kangana Ranaut starrer Tejas, Vikrant Massey starrer 12th Fail, and Nimrat Kaur and Radhika Madan starrer Sajini Shinde Ka Viral Video saw the light of day today. All three films tackle different stories and, even, genres. But they had one similarity – all of them opened to disastrous numbers at the box office today in the morning and early afternoon shows with the majority of shows cancelled due to lack of audience.
As far as Tejas is concerned, the movie collected Rs. 37 lakhs in PVR Inox properties across the country and Rs. 11 lakhs in Cinepolis chain of cinemas till 3 pm today. The total comes down to a mere Rs. 48 lakhs across the three national multiplex chains. Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail has fared even worse. The film has collected Rs. 31 lakhs and Rs. 9 lakhs in PVR Inox and Cinepolis chains respectively till 3 pm today, which comes down to Rs. 40 lakhs. Sajini Shinde Ka Viral Video fared the worst with figures less than Rs. 5 lakhs.
One should note that these are the numbers only from these three national multiplex chains and it doesn’t include figures from other multiplexes and single-screen theatres across India.
The dismal numbers for these films are not too surprising though. There was hardly any pre-release buzz or visibility for the three movies and the reviews also weren’t positive. It seems like there will be plateaued footfalls towards evening and late-night shows as well.
