‘That’s how it is done’ – Shah Rukh Khan could well be making an announcement here with the kind of smash opening that his Jawan has taken at the box office. In the times when films were struggling to have a lifetime number of Rs. 50 crores, he first scored Rs. 57 crores in just the opening day of Pathaan in January. That by itself was a massive achievement and one wondered when that would be replicated.

Well, the unthinkable has happened as leave aside being replicated, the first day collections of Jawan have set a much higher benchmark for the opening day of a film, what with an astonishing Rs. 65.50 crores coming on the very first day. This is in line with the prediction that was made here a few days back as there were all indications of numbers being this high on Thursday, given the kind of advance booking that the Atlee directed action drama had already started on. At that time itself it had started seeming that the Hindi version will open around Rs. 65 crores and the south versions will add another Rs. 10 crores odd.

This is what has happened too with Jawan bringing in Rs. 65.50 crores in Hindi, a never seen before feat on an opening day, with the Tamil and Telugu versions further adding Rs. 10 crores*, a number which is double of what Brahmastra had collected from south (Rs. 5 crores) last year. There is no way how you can truly describe this kind of a start and the best that one can do is sit back, relax and let the footfalls keep coming at theatres in days to come with more and more records been smashed.
